DIY Epoxy Flooring Vs. Professional Installation
We often get asked the differences between a do-it-yourself epoxy kit and our professional installation. A professional epoxy floor installation has a significant number of advantages over a do-it-yourself epoxy kit.
A DIY garage floor coating is from a box kit, usually purchased at a home improvement center. The box has enough epoxy to coat a two-car garage. The final coating thickness is about 5 mils. The epoxy is poured onto the floor by the homeowner and spread with a roller. Finally, chips are spread to create traction.
A professional, commercial grade garage floor coating is at about 15 to 30 mils. (3x – 6x thicker than the DIY home kit.) Our team arrives with more than enough epoxy to complete the project. Before we start applying epoxy, your entire floor will be slightly ground down with our stand up industrial grinder to prepare the surface to adhere perfectly. We’ll also fill in any cracks or depressions for a beautifully flat surface area.
The commercial grade epoxy is applied with a squeegee and we use special shoes to ensure that every surface is coated with a thick and durable layer of product. After application, we can apply colorful slip resistant chips, and if you desire, and an additional sealant of epoxy. Our lifetime guarantee is the last piece of the puzzle, giving you peace of mind for decades to come.
